Muck Removal and Dredging for Michigan Lakefront
If your feet sink a foot into cold black goo every time you step off the dock, that goo is muck. We pull it out and give you back firm bottom and deeper water along your shoreline.
What Muck Actually Is
Muck is years of dead and rotting organics that sank to the bottom and broke down. Dead algae. Fallen leaves. Grass clippings, twigs, fish waste. It all settles, decays, and turns into that soft black layer your foot vanishes into.
Here is the part most people miss. Muck is food. It is packed with nutrients, and those nutrients feed algae and aquatic weeds. So the thicker the muck gets, the worse your weeds and algae get, year after year. It shallows out your water too, and it can hold leeches right where the kids swim.
Muck does not go away on its own. Leave it and it keeps stacking up and keeps feeding the same weeds you are already fighting.

How We Remove It
We work off a floating barge with a cookie cutter style dredge and conveyor built for soft sediment. The dredge cuts and lifts the muck off the bottom and moves it out of your swim and dock area. Then we haul it off. When we are done you have firmer bottom, more water off the end of the dock, and a swim area that does not swallow your leg to the knee. This is the deep restoration job. It runs more than weed cutting because it fixes what is under the water, not just what floats on top.
Restores real depth
Pulling the muck layer out gives you back water you can actually swim and boat in instead of a shallow soft bottom.
Firms up the bottom
Once the soft sediment is gone you get down closer to firm sand and gravel underfoot instead of sinking in.
Starves future weeds
Take out the nutrient rich muck and you take away the food that feeds weeds and algae season after season.
Cleans up the water
Less rotting material sitting on the bottom means clearer water and a better looking shoreline.
What to Expect
First we come out and look at your shoreline in person. We tell you straight what the muck situation is and what it will take to fix it. You get a real number, not a runaround. Payment plans are available if you want to spread the cost, and yes, customers have mentioned that in their reviews. Muck and sediment removal in Michigan is regulated by EGLE under the inland lakes and streams rules. That means a lot of dredging jobs need a permit before anybody digs. We walk you through that process and keep the job inside Michigan and EGLE rules. Some small hand or mechanical work can be exempt, but we will not promise you an exemption or skip a permit that is required. That is how you get in trouble. Once we are cleared to go, we bring the barge and equipment in, do the removal, haul the muck away, and leave you your shoreline back.

Muck Removal & Dredging questions
Weed cutting clears the vegetation off the top so you can use your boat lane and swim area that same day. Muck removal goes after the soft black sediment on the bottom itself. Cutting is the affordable fix for a weedy summer. Dredging is the deeper job that pulls out the muck feeding those weeds in the first place. A lot of folks end up doing both, cutting to get the season back fast and dredging to fix the bottom for good.
